Before you order

Good information helps us supply the right product, packed the right way.

Filter media orders often involve heavy products, multiple grades, specific layer sequences and freight requirements. Our aim is to make ordering, packing and delivery as simple as possible.

If you know exactly what you need, send us your order. If you are unsure, contact Absorb and we can help with product choice, media sizing, quantities, packaging and delivery options.

Sand sizing terms

What does 7/14 or 14/25 mean?

Sand size ranges are commonly described using sieve mesh numbers. The first number is the coarser sieve and the second number is the finer sieve.

Mesh sizing

Understanding the numbers

The terms 7/14 and 14/25 refer to the size range of sand particles, defined by the mesh size of sieves used to sort the media.

  • 7/14: Particles pass through a 7-mesh sieve and are retained on a 14-mesh sieve.
  • 14/25: Particles pass through a 14-mesh sieve and are retained on a 25-mesh sieve.

In simple terms, 7/14 is coarser than 14/25.

Not sure which grade you need?

Media grading should match the filter design, application and performance requirements. If you are unsure, send us your specification, filter details or current media profile.

Absorb can help interpret media sizes and match product options to your project requirements.

Ordering options

Choose the easiest method

Email: Send your requirements or purchase order to sales@absorb.nz.

Quote request: Use the quote form if you would like pricing, product advice or support before ordering.

Consultation: If you are not sure what you need, email sales or phone Absorb so we can help you select the right product.

Multi-media orders

How do you pack multiple 20 kg products?

For multi-pallet media orders, we keep installation convenience in mind. Pallets are clearly labelled so you know where to start.

Where possible, we load the media in reverse order so the first media needed is easiest to access. We also provide an installation guide, placed in a plastic sleeve attached to the first bag you will use in the filter.

This helps reduce time on site and avoids unnecessary bag handling during installation.
Packaging size options

Bag and bulk bag options

Packaging depends on the product, order size, handling requirements and site restrictions.

Packaging
Small bags

20 kg and 25 kg bags

Support media is typically packaged in woven polypropylene, unlaminated bags with built-in UV protection. These bags have sewn tops and bottoms when filled with product.

Each bag typically contains either 20 kg or 25 kg of product.

  • A standard pallet may hold 50 x 20 kg bags, for a net weight of 1,000 kg.
  • A standard pallet may hold 40 x 25 kg bags, for a net weight of 1,000 kg.

Pallet configuration may vary depending on product and customer requirements.

Bulk supply

1-tonne bulk bags

Bulk bags are typically loaded with 1,000 kg net weight, although this can vary depending on customer requirements.

Bulk bags feature a duffle top for filling and sealing, with a spout bottom for controlled discharge. They are ideal when accurate pouring or dispensing is required.

Bulk bags also include an internal moisture barrier to help protect moisture-sensitive materials.

Let us know if your site has weight restrictions or special handling requirements.
Pallets and wrap

How we palletise and protect your order

Most media orders are heavy, so safe pallet selection and secure wrapping are important.

Freight-ready
Pallets

Quality recycled pallets

Almost everything we sell is shipped on a pallet. Because of the weights involved, our pallets need to be strong, clean and suitable for the job.

We use high-quality recycled pallets in good condition. Pallets are untreated, clean and suitable for the tasks at hand. Once a pallet is no longer safe or usable, we recycle it.

We do charge for pallets, but if you bring a suitable good-quality pallet to exchange when collecting your order, we will waive the pallet charge. If you return the pallet in good condition within 24 hours of collection or delivery, we will credit the pallet charge on your invoice.

Absorb reserves the right to reject any pallet that does not meet our standards.
Pallet wrap

Landfill-biodegradable wrap

To secure your purchase to its pallet, we use landfill-biodegradable hand-stretched wrap where possible.

This wrap can be recycled or disposed of in general waste for modern landfill disposal. In a modern landfill, biodegradation occurs significantly faster than conventional hand stretch wrap and breaks down without producing microplastics.

Transport

Delivery and collection options

We offer delivery methods tailored to your order size, product type, location and timing requirements.

Delivery methods
Delivery

How do you deliver orders?

Pallet freight: Palletised orders are shipped with our preferred freight supplier, helping provide competitive and reliable transport.

Parcel freight: Smaller orders are sent by courier with our trusted small parcel supplier.

Overseas import orders: As the New Zealand distributor for KSH nozzles, Cadar monolithic filter floors and specialty sands, we import products from around the world and keep you updated on order status, arrival and readiness for collection or delivery.

Collection

Can I collect my order?

Yes, you are welcome to collect your order in person, but please schedule a pickup time in advance.

We operate a working industrial site, so arranging a time helps keep everyone safe and ensures your order is ready.

For palletised orders, we can use a forklift to load your goods onto your trailer. If you prefer to hand-load your products, our staff can assist where practical.

Collection access is from Tauwhare Road only.
Sustainability

Practical packaging choices that reduce waste where possible.

We look for practical ways to reduce unnecessary waste while still protecting heavy media products during storage, transport and delivery.

Ask About Packaging

Recycled pallets

Reusing suitable pallets reduces demand for new timber, diverts wood from landfill and supports a more circular approach to freight.

Bio wrap

Where possible, we use landfill-biodegradable pallet wrap to secure orders while supporting better end-of-life outcomes than conventional wrap.

Bulk bags

Durable bulk bags help reduce reliance on smaller single-use packaging, improve handling efficiency and protect product integrity.
