Pea Metal, Garnet & Support Layers

These products sit beneath, between or alongside the active filtration layers — supporting the filter bed, protecting the underdrain and helping water move evenly through the system.

Why this page is different

These are the foundation materials, not the main filter sand range.

Pea metal, drainage rock, coarse support sand and garnet are used to build a stable graded profile below the active filtration media.

The right support profile helps prevent media migration, protect nozzles or laterals, assist drainage and support more effective backwashing.

If you are rebuilding a filter bed, this is the category for base layers, transition layers and dense support media.

Base Layer

Drainage Rock

Larger media used to support drainage and protect the underdrain zone.

Transition Layer

Pea Metal

Intermediate support media between coarse base layers and finer media.

Support Sand

Coarse Filter Sand

Coarser sand grades used as support or transition media in selected beds.

Dense Media

Garnet

Dense mineral media for multi-media and graded filtration systems.

Project Supply

Layered Orders

Multiple grades can be supplied for staged installation and replacement.

Select from pea metal, drainage rock, coarse support sand and garnet products. These materials are commonly used in graded filter beds, underdrain protection, refurbishment projects and multi-layer filtration systems.

For complete filter bed rebuilds or multiple-layer orders, send us the media profile and we can help calculate quantities and supply requirements.

Tip: If you are replacing a full filter bed, tell us the order the layers will be installed. Where practical, Absorb can help pack and label media so the first material needed is easiest to access on site.
  • FS0 Coarse Filter Sand
FS0 Coarse Filter Sand (3–5 mm, 99.1% Silica)

FS0 is naturally occurring Filter Sand / Pea Metal ideal for a range of filtration applications. Composed primarily of silica, it is durable, chemical stability.

  • G12 Garnet
    G12 Fine Garnet (1.2-2.4 mm, 98% Garnet)

Garnet is 25% heavier than Pea Metal. Our garnet is a natural almandite garnet known for its natural hardness, durability and abrasion resistance. A natural, chemically inert mineral, free of toxic metals, used as a support layer for granular filter media used in water treatment. There are four sizes of Garnet available.
